British Ambassador to Korea Visits’Hydrogen Product Stability Support Center’

[월간수소경제 이종수 기자] Korea Gas Technology Corporation (CEO Young-Tae Ko) announced on the 19th that the British ambassador to Korea visited the construction site of the Daejeon Hydrogen Industry Full Cycle Product Safety Support Center.

British Ambassador to Korea Simon Smith, together with Deputy Mayor Kim Myung-soo of Daejeon City, and head of the Korea Gas Technology Corporation, Cho Yong-don, the project overview and progress of the hydrogen cycle center, the hydrogen production facilities currently being promoted by the Gas Technology Corporation (Pyeongtaek, Busan, Wanju) Listening to the explanation of the construction and operation of charging stations (21 locations including Hwaseong and Cheongju), we toured the facilities of the Hydrogen Cycle Center.

At this meeting, British Ambassador Simon Smith said, “Korea is proactively developing the hydrogen industry in step with climate change, and the infrastructure to secure the safety of the hydrogen industry early through cooperation between local governments and companies under the leadership of the government. I was very impressed with how to build it quickly.”

With the visit of the British Ambassador to Korea this time, the city of Daejeon shared plans to respond to climate change that the world is paying attention to, and the government’s policy on the transition to a carbon-neutral (Net-zero) society in 2050, and developed hydrogen power cycle parts. It is planning to propose joint cooperation in the hydrogen field with the UK, such as promoting international joint research and international standardization of test standards for hydrogen components.

Korea Gas Technology Corporation President Ko Young-tae said, “Based on this exchange, we will connect the hydrogen power cycle center and the hydrogen business being promoted by the British government to provide technical exchanges throughout the hydrogen industry, including the demonstration project of establishing a charging infrastructure based on water electrolysis. It is expected to be an opportunity to cooperate with each other.”

The hydrogen cycle center, which is currently being built, will provide technical support and test bed functions from the test to development of hydrogen parts to domestic hydrogen parts by utilizing major test facilities such as hydrogen parts performance evaluation facilities and product efficiency evaluation facilities.

In particular, it plans to contribute to the improvement of the localization rate of parts for domestic manufacturers and vitalization of the hydrogen economy by additionally supporting the reduction of hydrogen parts test and evaluation fees for SMEs.

The Korea Gas Technology Corporation is planning to operate the hydrogen power cycle center in earnest from 2022. In October of last year, the Gas Technology Corporation signed a business agreement with the city of Daejeon on the commissioning and consignment operation of the product safety support center for the entire hydrogen industry.
