Brisbane’s proposal to build 80-90% of the competition venues using existing or temporary stadiums received high marks.
The good weather from July to August when the game is held and the experience of hosting major international sporting events also helped in selecting a place for negotiation.
Queensland, Australia, where Brisbane is part of, successfully held the Commonwealth Convention on the Gold Coast in 2018.
If the negotiations are successful and approved by voting at the IOC General Assembly, Australia will host the Summer Olympics for the third time, following Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000.
It was unfortunate from our position that we aimed to co-host Seoul and Pyongyang.
The change in the IOC’s selection of venues, which used to determine the next host city seven years before the competition, seems to have also had an impact.
This is because there was not enough time to prepare together as inter-Korean relations have recently squeezed.
In 2019, the IOC completely changed the rules for selecting host cities.
This is for the purpose of deciding and preparing for the venue more leisurely.
It was in 2017 that Los Angeles, USA was selected as the venue in 2028.
