Regarding the suspicion of real estate speculation by former and current employees of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH, LH) in the new city district of Gwangmyeong and Siheung, President Moon Jae-in targets the entire 3rd new city. He ordered a total survey of land transactions on workers and their families. Blue House spokesman Kang Min-seok said in a briefing on the 3rd that President Moon ordered three matters, including a thorough investigation, to the government in relation to allegations of speculation in the new cities of Gwangmyeong and Siheung. First of all, it was asked to conduct a thorough land transaction survey on workers and families in departments related to new housing development of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and LH, and related public institutions, not only for Gwangmyeong and Siheung, but also for the entire 3rd new town. The Prime Minister’s Office directs the thorough investigation, but jointly with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport insisted that sufficient manpower is invested to ensure that no suspicion remains, and if any illegal matters were confirmed, they were asked to respond strictly, such as an investigation request. Lastly, President Moon instructed to quickly prepare institutional measures to prevent allegations of speculation in relation to the development of new housing sites. An official at the Blue House said that the Prime Minister’s office was in charge of conducting the thorough investigation, “I know that the Participation Solidarity and Minbyun are calling for the audit of the auditor, but there is a case where the auditor and the government conducted a joint investigation. However, if jointly with the Board of Audit and Inspection, the commencement period may be delayed, so the Prime Minister’s Office will promptly conduct the first investigation to ensure objectivity and strictness.” Regarding the responsibility theory of the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Byun Chang-heum, who served as president of LH, said, “We will secure leadership and trust through a strict investigation this time.” By Lee Wan, staff reporter
