Blockchain-based web browser Brave develops its own search engine. To this end, Brave announced on the 3rd (local time) that it has acquired Tailcat, an open search engine.

Until now, Brave has consistently emphasized that it is a web browser that protects personal information. Brave explains that central search engines such as Google collect personal information during the search process.

Last year, Brave filed a complaint with Google for violating the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). At the time, Brave said, “Google collected personal information for an inappropriate purpose in violation of Article 5(1) b of the GDPR.”

Brave’s monthly active users (MAU) increased from 11 million last year to 25 million. In addition to protecting personal information, the token reward system seems to have helped attract users.

Users can choose whether to view advertisements in the Brave browser, and each time they view advertisements, they receive a Basic Attention Token (BAT) as a token. BAT is a cryptocurrency issued by Brave.

Brendon Ike Brave, CEO, said, “As a case of personal information infringement by big tech companies, the demand for personal information protection platforms is increasing. We will build a user-friendly open system to replace Google.” .
