[아시아경제 조유진 기자] US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln said on the 27th (local time) that relations with China are the most important in the world, emphasizing the need for cooperation and expressing deep concern for Russia in relation to the Nivalni incident.

“The US sees the US-China relations as the most important relations in the world, and the relations involve hostile and competitive aspects,” Blincoln said in his first press briefing after taking office. He then emphasized that “It is in the interest of the United States to cooperate with China on issues such as climate cooperation despite the concerns the United States has about China.”

However, China’s judgment on human rights issues against the Xinjiang Uyghurs was still valid, suggesting that the US-China conflict could spread beyond trade and economy to human rights issues.

Prior to his retirement, former Minister Mike Pompeo onslaught that China’s Uygr policy constituted genocide, and Blincoln also expressed his sympathy at a Senate approval hearing.

He also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin is detaining political opponent Alexey Navalni and is considering a response to Russia, which is suspected of intervening in the US elections.

He said he was “deeply concerned” about the Navalni incident, which was detained by Russian authorities, and was not excluding specific countermeasures.

“I am deeply concerned about Navalni’s safety, and the point is that his voice is the voice of many Russians,” he said.

In addition, it is also considering countermeasures against various suspicions surrounding Russia, such as the Navalni incident, as well as the hacking attack of the IT company Solarwinds, the killing key of US troops in Afghanistan for rewards, and intervention in the US elections.

Regarding the Iranian issue, Secretary Blincoln said that the United States will return when Iran fulfills its commitment to a nuclear agreement (JCPOA, Comprehensive Joint Action Plan) between the West and Iran in 2015.

The agreement was reached by the Barack Obama administration, but former President Donald Trump withdrew.

“President Biden has made it clear that the United States will do the same if Iran fully adheres to its obligations under the JCPOA,” Blincoln added.
