Minister of Foreign Affairs Eui-yong Eui-yong said on the 18th that there was no discussion with the US on the Quad (the US, Japan, Australia and India security council) at a meeting of the US-Korea diplomatic and defense ministers.

At a joint press conference held after the diplomatic and defense talks on the day, when the reporters asked,’Would the U.S. side propose to us to share information with Quad, joint warfare, joint training, etc.’ There were no suggestions for sharing, joint action, or training.

Minister Chung said, “At this meeting, there was a general explanation and discussion on situational awareness to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, but there was no specific mention of the quad.

He added, “The Korean government has spoken a number of times, but if it meets our principles of cooperation such as inclusiveness, openness, and transparency, and if it suits our national interests and contributes to regional and global peace and prosperity, we can cooperate with any council.”

However, Secretary of State Tony Blincoln responded to another reporter’s question about the Quad, saying, “The Quad is an informal group of sympathizers.” Replied.

Secretary Blincoln added, “I think these meetings are in line with the trilateral cooperation between Korea, the United States, and Japan, and I think they bring great benefits.”

At the Quad Summit held on the 12th, the distribution of a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine, cooperation with emerging technologies, and response to climate change were also discussed, which means that we are also cooperating with Korea on these issues.
