“The United States will not force its allies to choose between’us or them’ in relation to China.”

U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blingen made a speech at the headquarters of the NATO (NATO) in Brussels, Belgium on the 24th (local time) on the subject of rebuilding the alliance. Secretary of State Blincoln, who visited Europe for the first time since the inauguration of the administration of Joe Biden, devoted much of his speech that day to explaining the rationale for China’s checks.

He cited China, which is becoming increasingly aggressive along with climate change, Corona 19, and economic inequality as the four major threats facing the United States and Europe. “China’s military ambitions are growing year by year,” Blincoln said. “The modernization of the alliance begins with the improvement of military capabilities and preparedness.” He added, “The retaliatory measures taken by China against the European Union for sanctions against those involved in the human rights abuses in Xinjiang show the importance of our solidarity.”

In the section emphasizing civilian cooperation between allies, Korea was also mentioned. “In the 5G mobile communications (5G) sector where Chinese technology poses a serious surveillance risk, we must unite tech companies from countries such as Sweden, Finland, Korea and the United States,” said Secretary Blincoln. “We need to create a safe and reliable alternative.”

However, the United States requested’voluntary cooperation’, saying that it would not force its allies to choose between the United States and China. “There is no question that China’s coercive behavior threatens our collective security and prosperity,” he said. “But that does not mean that other countries cannot cooperate with China in possible areas such as climate change or health.” . “We know that our alliances have a complicated relationship with China,” he said. “The position may not always be the same, but we need to tackle the challenges together.”

During his visit to Europe, Minister Blincoln reiterated the government’s willingness to restore NATO, but expressed opposition by mentioning the possibility of sanctions on the natural gas pipeline project between Germany and Russia.

Meanwhile, President Biden will attend a video conference between the leaders of the 27 European Union (EU) countries, which will be held on the 25th (local time). After presided over the “Quad” conference, a conference of four countries in the Indo-Pacific region, on the 12th, it is expanding the pace for the rallying of the alliance in Europe.
