A woman who lost her cell phone in New York, USA, accused an innocent black teenage boy as a thief, and was then subjected to police investigation for violence and other acts.

The New York Times reported on the 7th (local time) that the NYPD is sending an investigator to the state of California to receive a statement from Miya Ponceto, 22, who caused racism controversy at a hotel in New York at the end of last year. .

On the 26th of last month, Ponceto tried to check the boy’s iPhone, claiming that a 14-year-old black boy who had stayed with his father in a hotel in New York had stolen his iPhone.

According to the media, Ponceto, with the help of a hotel manager, pursued and tackled the boy, and used violence, such as rummaging the boy’s pocket and scratching the boy’s father.

However, contrary to Ponceto’s claim, the iPhone he lost was later found in an Uber vehicle.

When a video filmed by the boy’s father was released, criticism spread that “a white woman with racist prejudice drove an innocent black boy into a thief.”

According to the results of the police investigation, it is known that Ponceto is likely to be charged with a third-degree robbery.

However, Ponceto’s lawyer explained that Ponceto was not white because he was mixed with Puerto Rico and Vietnam, and that “I wanted to get my iPhone back, but because of prejudice against black people, I did not point the boy as the culprit.”

The lawyer said, “Ponceto regrets his actions,” and “is directly asking for forgiveness from black boys and their families.”

However, the boy’s father revealed in a recent interview that it cannot be solved by apology alone. New York Mayor Bill Doublelazio also mentioned the need to prosecute Ponceto at a recent press conference, saying, “Whoever does this must pay a price.”
