[이데일리 박지혜 기자] Singer and BJ Big Joe (Bulk Joseph), who recently increased his weight to 320 kg and stopped his activities, died during surgery on the 6th. 43 years old.
BJ Big Hyeon-bae, who was active on the Internet with Big Joe, shared the news of Big Joe’s death through Africa TV.
Big Hyeon-bae said, “I was worried a lot because I couldn’t talk about it. Big Joe’s brother died at 6:30 pm. I received a related call during the broadcast.”
He said about Big Joe as “the older brother who was close to him recently,” but he couldn’t keep up for a while, but eventually showed tears.
Big Hyeon-bae said, “Everyone, if there are our fans, I would like you to refrain from going and praying for the deceased’s blessing and warming the way to go.”
He then announced, “Tomorrow (7th) we will have a funeral from the afternoon at Incheon International St. Mary’s Hospital.”

Big Joe performed surgery to remove inflammation in the body at a hospital in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do at 6:20 pm on the same day, but died due to poor progress.
Mr. Lee, former producer of Big Joe, said, “When I debuted, I was close to 250kg, but I was inflamed frequently at the time,” said Lee. “This time, I was hospitalized as my weight gained again. He said that he had an organ problem due to inflammation, and he had bleeding, and the bleeding did not stop and eventually died.”
Earlier, Big Joe announced on the YouTube channel’Um Sam-yong’ last month that he was taking a long time off for health reasons. He said, “I have been to the hospital, but I have to be hospitalized,” and “I will take a break while receiving treatment for about a month.”
Big Joe said about his health condition that he suffered from heart failure and diabetes, and that his oxygen levels were low.
Afterwards, on the 27th of last month, Big Hyeon-bae delivered an internet broadcast with YouTuber Um Sang-yong and delivered the latest status of Big Joe.
Big Hyeon-bae said, “I made a phone call with Big Joe’s mother. He said he wasn’t in very good condition.”
He said, “I breathe using an oxygen respirator, and the amount of oxygen supplied is insufficient, so my throat is pierced. It was a big deal if I pulled it out of bed, so he said that he had his arms and legs tied in the bed.”
Big Joe is a mixed-race singer born between a Korean mother and an American father, and debuted in the group’Holadang’ in 2008.
At the time of his debut, he gained attention with a height of 186 cm and a weight of 250 kg. He started a diet with trainer Sean Lee and lost more than 150 kg, but recently suffered a yo-yo phenomenon and confessed that his weight has increased again.
