US President Joe Biden signed an executive order to expand medical insurance coverage for low-income families on the 28th (local time), kicking off the revival of’Obama Care (Health Insurance Reform and ACA)’.

This measure includes the operation of a special registration period from February 15 to May 15 using the integrated medical insurance subscription website (healthcare.gov). This site was created by President Barack Obama to encourage insurance coverage by subsidizing ObamaCare. The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that the measure will benefit 15 million people who are not insured.

This measure is also part of the’Erase Trump’. Former President Donald Trump, who was negative for ObamaCare, put various restrictions, such as cutting the operating period of the site in half during his tenure and making subsidies payment difficult. It attempted to neutralize Obama Care in various ways, such as diversifying private insurance and lowering drug prices. On the other hand, President Biden has professed the expansion of Obama Care, criticizing Trump’s government policy for increasing the blind spot for medical insurance and leaving low-income people uninsured.

Nevertheless, the barriers Obamacare must overcome are still high. This is because there are not many parts that need to be supported by parliamentary legislation. President Biden pledged a policy to expand insurance options and increase subsidies during the presidential election, but the legislative process requires cooperation from Congress. The stimulus plan already limited by the Congress included a plan to subsidize the premium so that the premium does not exceed 8.5% of income, but the Republican Party’s opposition was met. The Associated Press said, “President Biden’s approach requires congressional approval, but there is a current of opposition to Obamacare within the Republican Party.”

On that day, President Biden ordered the Trump administration to withdraw the so-called “Mexico City policy” revived. The policy restricts funding to international organizations that support abortion, which was named after former President Ronald Reagan first announced its introduction policy in Mexico City in 1984. The Democratic Party and the Republican Party have different positions for and against the abortion issue, and this policy has repeatedly abolished and revived each time the regime changes.
