U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Alsoud of Saudi Arabia for the first time after taking office. A call is made before the US intelligence agency releases a report on the assassination of a Saudi journalist Kashukji, drawing more attention.
President Biden spoke with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Alsaud on the 25th (local time) to discuss the long-standing partnership between the two countries, the White House said.
According to the White House, the two leaders discussed security issues in the region, including a commitment to help defend Saudi territory against attacks by UN- and US-led diplomatic efforts to end the war in Yemen and Iran-linked groups.
President Biden affirmed the importance the United States has placed on universal human rights and the rule of law, and said he will strive to make bilateral relations as strong and transparent as possible.
The currency is attracting attention on this day because the US intelligence agency came before the release of the report of the murder case of Saudi journalist Jamal Kashqji in October 2018.
US intelligence officials are known to have determined that it is possible that Prince Muhammad Binsalman, son of King Salman and in power in Saudi Arabia, approved or ordered the assassination of Kashukji.
This is contrary to the fact that the Saudi government has revealed that Crown Prince Muhammad has nothing to do with the assassination case, and concerns have also been raised that when the report is released, Crown Prince Muhammad will be in an embarrassed position and the relationship between the two countries may be undermined.
As if conscious of this situation, it was observed that President Biden will take steps to disclose after talking to the Saudi king.
After its inauguration, the Biden administration has revealed its position to readjust its relations with the Saudis, including the release of reports on the Kashukji assassination, and the suspension of arms sales to Saudi Arabia, which had intervened in Yemen.
