US President-elect Joe Biden will attend Mass with the opposition leaders on the morning of the inauguration ceremony and throw a message of unity.

According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 19th (local time), Biden will visit St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Washington, DC on the morning of the 20th, the day of the inauguration ceremony. Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Representative Chuck Schumer, Republican Senate Mitch McConnell, and House Representative Kevin McCarthy were also invited to the Mass.

From the morning of the inauguration day, it seems that he will throw a message of unity through the appearance of attending Mass alongside the ruling and opposition leaders.

Biden’s move, contrary to US President Donald Trump, who established a sharp confrontation with the Democratic leadership during his tenure of office, shows an effort to unite the divided US.

Senator Chris Koons of the Democratic Party, close to Biden-elect, said in an interview on CNN that day, “It is an important and symbolic gesture for unity that Biden-elect has been calling for.”

Meanwhile, Biden is planning to give a speech on the theme of unity after taking the oath of office at noon on the 20th.
