President Biden celebrated his sacrifice by attending a memorial service for officer William Evans at the Rotunda Hall in the US Capitol on the 13th (local time). Congressional leaders, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, also attended the event. Officer Evans’ coffin was placed in the middle of the Rotunda Hall of the Capitol. The commemoration of publicly placing the coffin at the Capitol is one of the highest honors of the US Congress in honor of the dead. After the practice was made in 1998, only six people, including four Capitol officers, have been honored with this honor so far.

Officer Evans was killed in a riot by a man in his twenties wielding a weapon after hitting a checkpoint in the Capitol on the 2nd. He was a veteran of the Capitol for 18 years. President Biden looked at the bereaved family and said, “Your son, husband, brother, and father were heroes.” His first wife and daughter died in a car accident, and his son died of cancer. President Biden gave Evans’ son, who is wearing his father’s hat, a coin engraved with the White House as a gift.

During the memorial service, President Biden picked up a dome-shaped toy that fell on the floor and handed it to Evans’ daughter. Chairman Pelosi said, “There is no greater respect than the President of the United States bringing your toys to you,” the bereaved family laughed for a moment. “Evens joined the temple of heroes who gave their lives to defend the Capitol,” Pelosi said.
