‘Bibigo Mandu’, one of the representative players of’K-Food’ (Korean food) in the overseas market, exceeds 1 trillion won in annual sales. CJ CheilJedang announced on the 22nd that the sales of bibigo dumplings in the domestic and overseas markets are expected to reach 1.3 trillion won by the end of this year.

First in history as a single food item
420 billion won in the US sells better than Korea

Bibigo Dumpling is a frozen dumpling product launched in 2013. This is the first time bibigo dumplings have surpassed KRW 1 trillion in annual sales as a single food item. Food products have a lower price per item compared to other industries, so an annual sales of 1 trillion won for a single item is considered a’dream sales’ in the industry.

Overseas sales of bibigo dumplings this year were 670 billion won, accounting for 65% of total sales. This year, Shin Ramyun is expected to sell 860 billion won and Choco Pie is 440 billion won. The new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) is the result of increasing demand for food that domestic and foreign consumers eat at home.

The overseas market where Bibigo dumplings worked most is in the US. In the meantime, Chinese dumplings with thick blood and mainly stuffed with meat have represented dumplings in the United States. CJ CheilJedang also created a separate dumpling research and development (R&D) organization in California, USA to quickly reflect the taste of local consumers. Bibigo dumplings entered the warehouse-type discount store Costco in 2013, and from 2016, Costco surpassed Chinese dumplings’Lingling’ and rose to the top of the dumpling sales. This year, sales of Bibigo dumplings in the US were 420 billion won, which is higher than that of Korea (360 billion won). An official at CJ CheilJedang said, “American chefs and YouTubers do not call it’Korean dumplings,’ but pronounce it as’mandu’ in Korean.
