With the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in the area near Beijing, the capital of China, Shijiazhuang and Xingtai cities in Hebei Province demanded that all residents stay at home for the next 7 days. Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province, has a population of 11 million, and Xingtai and resident populations total more than 18 million.

Shijiazhuang City stopped operating each subway line from the morning of the 9th amid worries about becoming the “second Wuhan”. At a press conference the previous day, Shijiazhuang quarantine authorities said that all residents had completed the nucleic acid test and that all residents should stay at home for the next week. For effective quarantine, residents demanded that residents do not move, do not hold meetings, and do not come out of the residential complex.

Shijiazhuang entered the city blockade on the evening of the 7th. Singtai also implemented a blockade a day later. Xingtai City also took measures to keep all residents at home for a week, the same as Shijiazhuang the evening before. Xu Jianfei, the deputy provincial leader of Hebei Province, said that all villages and complexes in Shijiazhuang and Xingtai Nangong City are under closed management, and except in special circumstances, they can only enter and cannot leave.

The Xinhua news agency said that Shijiazhuang, a metropolitan city with more than 10,000 inhabitants, was temporarily suspended, and the streets quickly became sluggish.

China’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chun-lan visited sites such as the Xiaoguozhuang village in Shijiazhuang, where corona infections were concentrated, and urged them to promptly curb the spread of the virus.

China is paying special attention to the proliferation of Hebei because the area surrounds the capital, Beijing. In Hebei Province, an additional 14 confirmed cases and 16 asymptomatic infections were reported during the past 8 days. These are all from Shijiazhuang. However, the number of infected people soared to the level of 120 people a day and then decreased for two consecutive days. Shijiazhuang’s infected number exceeded 300 in just a few days. The day before, the number of confirmed cases in the mainland across China was 17, and three were found in Liaoning, except for 14 in Hebei Province.
