It was revealed that the Porsche’Taikan 4S’ was the most sold imported electric car in Korea this year.

According to the Korea Imported Vehicles Association on the 23rd, 225 Taikan 4S units (based on new car registration by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) were sold in January and February. It is the highest sales volume among electric car models of imported car brands. It greatly outperformed the 2nd place Chevrolet’Volt EV’ (28 units) and the 3rd place Mercedes’EQC400 4matics’ (25 units). BMW’i3′ (14 units) and Peugeot’e-2008 Electric (13 units)’ followed.

The Porsche Taycan 4S, launched in November last year, is an expensive model with a price of 145.6 million won. It is a’electric supercar’ with a maximum of 571 horsepower. The zero-back (the time it takes from a standstill to 100 km/h) is 4 seconds, and the maximum speed is 250 km/h. The distance that can be driven per charge is 289km based on Performance Battery Plus.

The Taycan 4S surpassed Tesla’s’Model 3′, which was the’best seller’ in the electric car market last year, even at a price point that exceeded 100 million won. Model 3 sold more than 900 units a month on average until last year, ranking first in the electric vehicle market. However, in January, it sold only one, and in February, it sold only 14.

Tesla’s sluggish sales are largely affected by the shortage of supplies. In general, Tesla brings in supplies on a quarterly basis. Because of this, sales in March, June, and September last year were higher than at other times.

However, even considering the volume problem, this year’s sales volume is lower than last year. Model 3 sold 122 units in January last year, and 1402 units sold in February. It is 100 times the amount of sales this year.

There is also a prospect that Tesla’s market share will decrease in the long term. This is because imported car brands are also releasing new electric car models this year, starting with Hyundai Motor’s’Ioniq 5’and Kia’s’EV6′. Benz is planning to release an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV)’EQA’ based on the GLA model and a luxury electric sedan’EQS’. BMW will also release electric SUVs’iX’ and’iX3′ within this year.

An official from the Korea Automobile Industry Association said, “If more than 300 models are released over the next five years, competition in the electric vehicle market will become more intense.
