The unification negotiations between the Mayor of Seoul City Mayor Oh Se-hoon and the Nationalist Party candidate Ahn Chul-soo are discordant over detailed issues.

The working-level negotiation teams of the two sides held a third meeting in the conference room of the National Assembly for about 4 hours from 11 am on the 12th, but they did not reach an agreement. At the meeting that day, attention was paid to whether key issues such as discussions and public opinion polls would be settled collectively.

The power of the people agreed to first agree on the number and method of discussions, and to discuss the method of public opinion polls at the next meeting. However, the Nationalist Party confronted it, asking to settle it all at once. In the course of the meeting, harsh words such as “basic manners were not good” and old castles were poured out.

After the meeting, Secretary General Chung Yang-seok told reporters, “I think we can’t reach a conclusion if we have stayed longer, so let’s discuss only that much”. Lee Tae-gyu, secretary general of the National Assembly Party, said, “There are some parts that are close, but there are parts that have not been arranged, so there is no agreement today.”

Both sides couldn’t even schedule the next meeting. Accordingly, it is unclear whether the vision debate, which the two candidates agreed to hold 14 days ago, will be held in time. However, President Jung said, “We decided to contact each other,” and Lee said, “We must continue the conversation,” leaving room for further negotiations.

The negotiating team previously confirmed the election date of the single candidate at the second meeting as the last day of candidate registration, the 19th. The polls for this are conducted on the 17th and 18th.
