(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Jae-young Lee = Thomas Bach, chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said that the Taoist Olympics will be held this summer and there is no alternative, the Japanese Kyodo News Agency reported on the 21st.
In an exclusive video interview with Kyodo News, Chairman Bach said, “There is no reason to believe that the Tokyo Olympics will not start at the stadiums in Tokyo on July 23. This is why there is no’Plan B’and we are “That’s why we are committed to playing games safely and successfully.”
However, Chairman Bach emphasized, “The IOC must be flexible and will need to make sacrifices to protect the lives of those involved.”
This suggested that the number of spectators could be reduced, Kyodo News said.
“Safety comes first,” he added. “There are no taboos when it comes to safety.”
Chairman Bach said that next year’s Beijing Winter Olympics will also proceed as planned.
The interview was held about six months before the scheduled opening of the Tokyo Olympics.
Japan delayed the hosting of the Olympics by one year four months ahead of the Olympics as the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) spread worldwide early last year.
Recently, as Corona 19 spreads again in Japan, there are voices that the Olympics should be postponed again or held without spectators.
According to the results of a nationwide telephone poll conducted by Kyodo News Agency on the 9th to 10th, 35.3% of respondents said “Stop (cancellation)” and 44.8% of respondents “must re-postponed” to the Tokyo Olympics.
