Thomas Bach (68), chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), confirmed that he will continue to work on the 10th (local time).

Chairman Bach, who was a sole candidate, succeeded in reappointing the office with a de facto unanimous vote of 93 votes in favor and 1 vote out of 94 valid votes in the vote of the 137th IOC General Assembly held on the same day.

Chairman Bach, from Germany, is scheduled to take office after August 8, next year, when the Tokyo Olympics close, and the term is until 2025.

IOC chairpersons may serve consecutive terms, the first term of which is 8 years and the second term of 4 years.

Chairman Bach, who won the gold medal as a member of the West German fencing team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, was elected as the replacement of former chairman Jacques Rogue at the 2013 IOC General Assembly and has led the IOC for eight years.

In front of Chairman Bach, who has confirmed his succession, there are tasks such as the Tokyo Olympics, which were postponed for one year in the aftermath of Corona 19, and the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, the capital of China, which has risen on the cutting board due to human rights issues in Xinjiang and Hong Kong. Communication conveyed.

Regarding the Tokyo Olympics, Chairman Bach emphasized again that Tokyo is the most well-prepared venue for the Olympics.

“There is no doubt that the opening ceremony will be held on July 23,” he said. “It hasn’t become any Gyeonggi virus spreader,” he said. “It’s clear evidence that international events can be organized while protecting everyone’s health.”
