Thomas Bach, chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announced that it will provide a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine to participants in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in Japan and Beijing, China, and has agreed to cooperate with China to do so.
According to Reuters and AFP on the 11th (local time), at a general meeting held online on the same day, Chairman Bach said, “From the China Olympic Committee, the host country of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, we will provide a vaccine to the participants of this year’s Tokyo Olympics and next year’s Beijing Olympics. I got an offer.”
“The IOC will pay (to the Chinese side) for the cost of giving the vaccine not only to the Olympics, but also to Paralympic participants,” he added.
Chairman Bach did not specifically comment on the amount of vaccine supplied, Reuters said.
In the midst of this, Toshiro Mutoh, Secretary General of the Tokyo Olympics Organizing Committee met with reporters on this day and said, “I am aware of Chairman Bach’s comments, but since the Japanese government is in charge of the vaccination procedure, I am not in a position to mention it”
“The IOC will make every effort to ensure that many participants who have already been vaccinated in Japan can attend the Olympics,” Bach said.
