(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Shin Shin-mi Kim Seo-young = One additional case of thrombosis was diagnosed after receiving a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine in Korea.

This is the third case of reporting thrombosis after vaccination, all related to the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine.

The Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (hereinafter referred to as the Promotion Team) said on the 7th that “one of the severe cases reported on the last 5 days was diagnosed with thrombosis and is being investigated.”

The person who was diagnosed with thrombosis after vaccination was a woman in her twenties, who was a worker at a medical institution.

I received the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine on the 17th of last month, and symptoms occurred on the 29th of the same month, 12 days later.

The promotion team is currently conducting an investigation into whether the woman has any chronic diseases (underlying diseases) that she has usually suffered.

Park Young-joon, head of the adverse reaction investigation support team of the promotion team, said at a back briefing on the day that “the current investigation showed symptoms of blood clots 12 days after vaccination.” I received it, and after a few more days, the leg was accompanied by swelling of the lower extremities,” he explained.

“Thrombosis was confirmed in the legs and lungs, and cerebral blood clots as in the diagnosis of’Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis’ (CVST) were not confirmed.” It could also be’deep vein thrombosis’,” he added.

Currently, the woman’s condition is known to be improving.

Earlier in Korea, a case of paramedics in their 20s who were diagnosed with CVST after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine was reported. This paramedic suffered from severe headache symptoms and was hospitalized, and the symptoms improved and are now discharged.

Prior to this, a blood clot was found in a person who died after vaccination with AstraZeneca.

The deceased was a patient in her 60s who was admitted to a nursing hospital, and a thrombosis was found at a post-mortem autopsy, but the authorities concluded that it was not related to the vaccine.

Meanwhile, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) will review the relationship between AstraZeneca vaccination and rare thrombosis and announce the results on the 7-8th (local time).

When the results of the EMA’s review come out, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to receive advice from experts related to blood clots and vaccines, and discuss with the Vaccination Specialist Committee to announce its position.
