Amid reports of clot formation after being vaccinated against a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) from Oxford University-AstraZeneca, a senior member of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said the AstraZeneca vaccine had a link between blood clots.

According to AFP news agency on the 5th (local time), EMA Vaccine Director Marco Quevaleri told Italian local media that it is becoming increasingly difficult to say that “there is no causal relationship between AZ vaccine and very rarely reported specific thrombosis.” Said.

“It’s clear in my opinion that (this symptom) is related to the vaccine,” he said. “I still don’t know what caused this reaction.” “Sooner or later, the link between vaccine and thrombus side effects will be clarified by EMA.”

“We’re trying to figure out exactly what’s happening and to define the vaccine-dependent syndrome in detail,” Cavaleri said.

EMA announced the results of the safety evaluation of the AZ vaccine on the 18th of last month.

At the time, EMA said that there was no association between the AZ vaccine and an increased risk of thrombosis in general, but the causal relationship with specific thrombosis, which was reported very rarely, could not be completely ruled out, so it was undergoing further evaluation.

However, as cases of thrombosis continue to appear afterwards, concerns about safety continue. There have been a number of deaths from side effects of blood clots after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, not only in the UK, Germany, but also in European countries.

According to UK health officials, 30 cases in the UK showed side effects of blood clots after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine. Seven people died and 22 developed cerebral sinus thrombosis (CVST). In Germany, there were 31 thrombotic side effects, of which 9 fatalities occurred. Thus, Germany is vaccinating the AstraZeneca vaccine for people over 60 years old, and in France, Sweden and Canada over 55 years old. Norway and Denmark have stopped vaccination against AstraZeneca for all ages.
