In connection with the recent suspension of AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccination to investigate cases of’thrombosis’ in some European countries, the quarantine authorities announced that they will take prompt action if any abnormalities are detected in Korea.

The quarantine authorities said, however, that no one in Korea reported a blood clot reaction after vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine, and the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) “has not recognized the causality between vaccine and blood clots. I re-emphasized the fact that I announced.

In relation to the trend of AstraZeneca vaccination in Europe, the head of the situation general manager of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccination and response promotion team said at a regular briefing on the 13th. We will take action quickly,” he said.

He explained, “Fortunately, Korea has not imported AstraZeneca vaccine with the same serial number reported in Europe, and there have been no cases of similar adverse reactions such as thromboembolism among the 580,000 vaccinated people to date.”

He also said, “Some countries in Europe have made a decision to stop vaccination for AstraZeneca vaccine or vaccine with the corresponding serial number for the time being, but the European Medicines Agency announced on the 10th that the cause of death and the causality of the vaccine were not recognized. Yesterday, the WHO also explained that there was no reason to stop using the AstraZeneca vaccine because a causal relationship was not established.”

Bae said, “WHO has conducted more than 33.5 million vaccinations worldwide, but no vaccine-related deaths were found. On the other hand, more than 2.6 million people died from Corona 19.” The international community also recognized its importance,” he stressed.

He added, “It is an individual’s voluntary choice to decide whether or not to be vaccinated, but vaccination is a sure way to protect not only my health, but also the health of high-risk groups, neighbors who have not been vaccinated, and society.”

The promotion team plans to take measures such as temporarily suspending the use of the serial number product if abnormal symptoms such as similar symptoms appearing in common among several people in a short period of time after vaccination with the same serial number are reported in the future.

When the serial number is the same, it means that it was made by the same process at a certain time, so the composition of the vaccine is homogeneous.

Earlier, in Austria, two women who received the same serial number (batch ABV 5300) of AstraZeneca vaccine at the same time in Austria had adverse thrombotic reactions, of which a 49-year-old woman died of’severe clotting’.

With suspected blood clots, Bulgaria, Denmark, Norway and Iceland temporarily stopped vaccination against AstraZeneca, while Austria, Italy, Romania, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Luxembourg stopped vaccination with a specific serial number.

However, the UK, Sweden, France, Spain and the Netherlands continue to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.
