The quarantine authorities announced that it will secure an initial volume of 50,000 people early next month through the COVAX facility, a joint purchase alliance for coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccines, and speed up the preparation work.

On the 20th, Shin Hye-kyung, head of the Vaccine Supply and Demand Division, Central Defense Countermeasure Headquarters (Bang Dae-bon), made this announcement at a press conference on Corona 19.

Earlier, Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun appeared on a radio broadcast that day and said, “It is possible that the initial shipment of 10 million contracted with Kobax Facility will arrive in February.” “Is it possible to receive it in early February?” “I’ll get it” and I’m preparing.” He said, “The amount is not much. It is 100,000 doses, for 50,000 people, and it is not confirmed, and we are discussing it now.”

Regarding this, Shin said, “As the Prime Minister said, we received a proposal for the initial volume (from Kobax), and “(Kovax) is investigating demand not only for Korea but also for each country.”

However, the specific timing, quantity, and type have not been confirmed yet. Shin said, “The timing of supply will be decided when the end of January or later,” he said. “Because the supply plan has been finalized and notified, we will announce it because the supply plan is final and notified,” he said.

The quarantine authorities are planning to speed up the preparation work by looking at the approximate supply timing in early February.
