Accordingly, 137 bereaved families of the Sewol ferry filed a civil and criminal lawsuit against former lawmakers in May last year, requesting compensation for 3 million won per person (a total of 411 million won), saying, “I used insulting expressions to cause mental pain.” .
The lawyers said, “This trial will serve as an opportunity to determine to what extent the freedom of expression will be guaranteed in cases that have been publicized, such as the Sewol ferry accident, and the extent to which insults or defamation should be allowed against groups other than individuals.
