[뉴스토마토 조승진 기자] As the news that the AstraZeneca vaccine is about to be approved after Christmas as early as possible, the Korean government’s vaccine supply policy is expected to be breathless. The AstraZeneca vaccine was selected as the main supply vaccine by the Korean government, but as approval by the U.S. regulatory authorities was delayed, there were concerns that it would negatively affect the vaccination schedule in Korea.
Reuters reported on the 24th (local time) that British Health Minister Matt Hancock submitted the entire data package to regulators yesterday, the next step for AstraZeneca’s approval for use. “This is the next step toward the decision to distribute the vaccine,” said Hancock, and said AstraZeneca vaccine is already being manufactured in places including the UK.

The approval of the AstraZeneca vaccine is expected to come soon after Christmas. British government science adviser John Bell, Oxford University professor, told BBC Radio 4 on the 23rd that “It is questionable whether it will be approved on Christmas Day, but it will happen shortly thereafter,” the BBC reported.
As the British authorities approved the AstraZeneca vaccine, the possibility of positive public opinion forming on the Korean government’s vaccine supply policy increased. The Korean government has announced a vaccination plan by completing the pre-purchase of 10 million AstraZeneca. However, as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raised the possibility of delaying approval of the AstraZeneca vaccine, it was raised that the domestic supply schedule would be disrupted. Despite the government’s self-approval plan, negative public opinion has not subsided, but the approval of the British authorities is expected to relieve public opinion concerns.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun announced that Janssen and Pfizer had signed a contract to purchase a corona 19 vaccine at the Corona 19 critical script meeting on the 24th. Prime Minister Chung said, “In the case of Janssen, he signed a contract for 6 million people, which is more than the originally planned amount of 2 million people,” and said, “We will start vaccination from the second quarter of next year.”
