The first step towards defeating Corona 19, which has drove us into pain for over a year, has begun.
Currently, the amount of vaccines secured by the government is 79 million people, and there is enough remaining even if the entire people are hit once.
The problem is the speed of vaccination to aim for the formation of’collective immunity’ by November this year.
According to the quarantine authorities on the 22nd, AstraZeneca vaccination will begin on the 26th. From the 27th, Pfizer vaccinations received through the COVAX facility, an international project for joint vaccine purchase, will begin.
From the 26th, the government will begin vaccinating AstraZeneca vaccinations for residents and workers under the age of 65 at 5873 nursing hospitals, nursing facilities, systemic and rehabilitation facilities nationwide.
As of 0:00 on the 20th, a total of 280,927 people said they would get the vaccine. This is 93.6% of the 3,089,930 pre-registrants at 5804 nursing hospitals and nursing facilities, which is 17,140 more than the estimated targets (272131) when the government announced the vaccination plan in February and March.
The consent rate for the Pfizer vaccine, which will arrive at Incheon International Airport on the 26th of this month, is also about 95%.
Of the 58,029 medical staff and workers in hospitals that treat patients with Corona 19, 94.6 percent of the 5,4910, or 94.6 percent, said they would get the Pfizer vaccine. Only 5.4% (3119 people) refused.
If there are no unexpected schedule changes, the Pfizer vaccine will start on the 27th, the weekend.
However, if the scope of inoculation is gradually expanded in the future, it is difficult to predict how much the total inoculation rate will be.
When Gallup Korea asked 1,000 people over the age of 18 to get the vaccine for Corona 19 on the 16th to 18th, 71% of the respondents said they were willing to get the vaccine. 19% of respondents said they had no intention of vaccination, and about 10% of respondents withheld their opinion.
In the midst of this, the medical-political conflict over the amendment to the medical law to revoke the license of a doctor who was sentenced to a prison sentence or higher is another variable.
The president of the 16 provincial and provincial medical associations nationwide made a statement on the 20th, the day after the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee passed the amendment to the medical law. “It is clear that it will cause a major obstacle to the Corona 19 response,” he warned.
The Chairman of the Medical Association, Choi, said at the 2nd meeting of the’Corona 19 Vaccination Protocol Joint Committee’ the day before, “(At the time of resolution by the Judiciary Committee) all the cooperation systems related to Corona 19 treatment and vaccination will collapse. There is no choice but to go on a national strike.”
If the strike becomes a reality, there could be disruptions to the government’s plan to form collective immunity by November.
In this regard, Prime Minister Chung Sye-gyun said at a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters the day before, “when we need to mobilize for a successful vaccination, the medical council opposes the discussion on amendments to the National Assembly’s medical law, expressing the possibility of a general strike, causing many public concern.” He emphasized that “if illegal collective action becomes a reality, we will respond firmly.”
