ASML has announced that it will supply 40 EUV exposure equipment this year. Last year, it announced that it had supplied a total of 31 equipment.

Peter Benningk, CEO of ASML, said in a conference call for the 4th quarter of 2020, which was held on the 20th (local time), “We supplied 31 EUV systems last year and generated sales of 4.5 billion euros Sales of 5.8 billion euros (about 7.700 billion won) are expected from the EUV system,” he said.

CEO Benning said he is also making efforts to shorten the EUV manufacturing period. “We will continue to pursue the EUV 0.33NA product roadmap,” he said. “The current 0.33 performance has improved and we plan to have the first certification system in 2022.”

The EUV system is an essential equipment for semiconductor microprocessing. It is exclusively supplied by ASML based on the original technology. The price per unit reaches 150 billion won. Semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics and TSMC are eager to purchase this equipment to secure competitiveness in microprocessing. Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited the ASML headquarters in October last year to secure EUV equipment.

ASML achieved its record-high performance last year thanks to sales of EUV exposure equipment. ASML announced last year’s sales of 14 billion euros (about 1.87 trillion won), up 18.6% from the previous year. During the same period, net income increased by 38.5% to 3.6 billion euros. Sales related to EUV equipment accounted for 43% of total sales. The previous year’s share was 31%.

“We shipped 9 EUV systems in the fourth quarter, and eight of them were reflected as sales in the fourth quarter,” said Benink. “Reservation sales in the fourth quarter recorded 4.2 billion euros,” he added. “This included the amount of 6 EUV systems worth 1.1 billion euros.”

He also positively forecasts this year’s earnings outlook. CEO Benink said, “This year is also expected to be a year in which the strong demand for logic semiconductors and the market recovery in the memory sector can continue to grow.” As an important factor driving the growth of this semiconductor industry, it will create positive demand in all business areas of ASML.”
