Demonstrations were held near Washington DC and New York City to protest the Atlanta shootings that killed eight people, including four Korean Americans.

According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 18th (local time), about 200 people gathered in Chinatown in Washington DC to hold a rally the night before and protest until late at night.

Protesters marched through the streets and shouted slogans while holding pickets with the phrases “Asian Lives Matters” and “#StopAsianHate!” written on them.

It’s similar to the’Black Llives matter’ protest that followed last year’s black male George Floyd’s death in police brutality.

In Korean,’The police do not prevent crime. Protesters marching with placards saying’We protect us’ were caught in foreign media photos. Some attendees even lit candles in honor of the victims, saying that Asians have suffered a lot of bullying and violence over the past few months.

In Queens, where many Asians live in New York, about 200 people held a rally until late at night the previous night to protest violence against Asians. They lit candles and gathered together and shouted the slogan’Stop hatred’. Some attendees showed tears and called for an end to racial violence, the New York Times (NYT) reported.
