Artificial intelligence (AI) is also making progress in the medical field. AI, which is used in conjunction with big data, Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing technology, is developing to the level of rapidly and accurately recognizing doctor’s diagnosis as well as data analysis as it is recently combined with the medical industry.
Among them, Jaimed, a developer of explanatory artificial intelligence (XAI) that can be certified by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, signed an agreement with Inthe Smart, a domestic medical device company, to develop an artificial intelligence for laparoscopy for the first time in the world, showing its presence in the medical market.
Jaimed Co., Ltd. is a medical artificial intelligence development company led by Professor Sang-min Park of the Department of Family Medicine of Seoul National University Hospital, who served as a member of the Presidential 4th Industrial Digital Health Care Special Committee and the Director of the Health Promotion Center of Seoul National University Hospital. It was established to improve Korea’s future food industry. Currently, it is focusing on localizing the artificial intelligence diagnostic medical device business using Korean medical data against foreign capital.
The newly developed laparoscopic artificial intelligence (XAI) is a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence created based on data from laparoscopic surgery conducted by Jaimed’s own animal experiments, and can be installed in a standalone medical device according to the’hostile explanation methodology’ and certified by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. This is possible. The technology optimized for the artificial intelligence processor inside the laparoscopic machine is applied, and it has the advantage of real-time prediction with artificial intelligence lightweight technology.
As the introduction of artificial intelligence spreads day by day, stability has emerged as a’hot potato’. Although it is receiving positive attention in terms of being able to take care of the medical field efficiently, the’black box’ problem that explains the process leading to diagnosis has also caused fierce controversy.
Among these, Jaimed’s laparoscopic artificial intelligence (XAI) received high praise for reinforcing clinical reliability by implementing a function that explains the prediction of artificial intelligence.
An official said, “Most of the medical artificial intelligence developed so far has mainly been in the software field that imports data from hospital servers and applies it, and artificial intelligence with relatively low difficulty such as electrocardiogram equipment has been centered on hardware.” “In that respect, the company’s laparoscopic artificial intelligence has made significant achievements in that it has accelerated the development of the hardware field related to artificial intelligence and opened the way for all medical devices to obtain approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.”
“When existing artificial intelligence supports decision-making, it has been pointed out that it is not possible to logically explain the basis of the decision and only inform the result. Jaimed’s technology goes beyond simply increasing the accuracy of diagnosis, and furthermore, doctors in the field. It is expected that it will be a revolutionary turning point in the development of artificial intelligence medical devices in that it can be explained so that people can understand it.”
Meanwhile, Jaimed is also expected to expand its market share in the global medical market, including exports of laparoscopy to developing countries. Laparoscopy is difficult to train medical staff, but it is expected to increase demand in developing countries as it reduces the risk of bleeding through the fluorescence function and provides high-level medical support with artificial intelligence.
