As the Ministry of Justice is known to form a committee to recommend candidates for the prosecutor-general next week, several people are being discussed as candidates for the next president-elect.

According to law enforcement officials on the 5th, the Ministry of Justice is planning to start the formation of the Prosecutor General Candidate Recommendation Committee next week when President Yun’s resignation is accepted. The Prosecutor General’s Candidate Recommendation Committee consists of 4 non-partisan members, including 5 ex officio members including the Prosecutor’s Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, 1 person from the prosecutor level, and 3 non-lawyers who have both knowledge and virtues. The Ministry of Justice will receive a recommendation from the Prosecutor General’s Candidate Recommendation Committee for suitable candidates for the president.

However, it seems that it will take some time to appoint a non-executive member. Earlier, at the time of the resignation of former prosecutor-general Chae Dong-wook in 2013, it took 24 days to form a nomination committee for the president after the announcement of his company.

Inside the prosecution, Deputy Prosecutor Nam-gwan Cho is the next president. During the Roh Moo-hyun administration, Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jo served as an administrator at the Office of the Blue House, and during the Moon Jae-in administration, he served as the head of the National Intelligence Service’s supervisory office and the team leader of the TF team. Afterwards, he served as the prosecutor’s chief at the time of former Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae and was promoted to the deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office.

Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office Lee Seong-yoon is also on the verge of being a promising candidate for the next president-elect. However, there are also many opinions that it is unlikely that the prosecutor Lee will be targeted for investigation in the case of the suspected illegal withdrawal of Kim Hak-e’s former Vice Minister of Justice.

In some people, candidates from non-prosecutors are also being carefully discussed. This is because, according to the Prosecutors’ Office Act, if you have 15 years of experience as a judge or lawyer, you can become a president. Amid the rapid changes in the judicial system, such as the establishment of a high-ranking public officials criminal investigation office and a major criminal investigation office, it is believed that a person from a non-prosecutor can deliberately present a person from a non-prosecution for a major reorganization of the prosecution organization. However, in this case, it is expected that there will be considerable backlash from the prosecution.
