(Cairo = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Sang-hoon = The first Arab Mars probe’Amal’ (Arabic meaning hope) sent by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent a picture of Mars for the first time after settling in orbit.

The Muhammad bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), which oversees the UAE’s space advance program, announced on the 14th (local time) that Amal sent the first image after entering Mars orbit.

MBRSC said, “This image was taken on the 10th, the day after Amal’s entry, at 24,000,700 km above Mars. The scene where’Olympus Mons’, the largest volcano in the solar system, appears in the early morning sun. I was caught,” he explained.

Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid Almaktoum, UAE Prime Minister, Vice President and Dubai leader, posted a picture of Mars from Amal on his Twitter on the 14th.

He wrote, “A picture of Mars taken by the first probe in the history of the Arab world.”

Amal, who left Japan’s Tanegashima Space Center in July last year, successfully entered Mars orbit on the 9th, after nearly seven months.

After successfully entering orbit, Amal performs tasks such as measuring the atmosphere in the upper and lower layers of Mars and observing and photographing the surface of Mars.
