According to market research firm Strategy Analytics (SA) on the 1st, it is estimated that Samsung Electronics shipped 41 million units in the 5G smartphone market last year, ranking third with 15.1% market share. Huawei (29.2%), which shipped 79.6 million units, ranked first, and Apple (19.2%), which shipped 52.3 million units.

Apple’s iPhone 12, which was introduced late in October as a 5G model, was found to have gained popularity from the beginning of its launch and increased its share in a short period of time.

According to counterpoint research, a market research firm, iPhone 12 surpassed the sales of its predecessor’iPhone 11′ in weeks 1-6 except in the second week of release. In particular, in October of last year, the first month of its launch, it was found to account for a quarter of the global 5G smartphone sales that were sold in the same month. The industry predicts that the iPhone 12 box office will continue until the first quarter of this year.

In response, SA predicted that this year’s ranking could be reversed and Apple could surpass Huawei and rise to the top. Samsung Electronics is also expected to take second place in the Huawei blank.

Huawei saw a significant increase in its market share last year due to the surge in 5G smartphone shipments in China. However, the position is unstable due to high regulatory risks such as trade disputes between the US and China.

Meanwhile, the 5G smartphone market this year is expected to be 600 million units, more than twice that of last year, which is 2722.6 million units. Apple is expected to take 29% and Samsung Electronics 16.8%, followed by Vivo (13.9%), Oppo (12.8%), and Xiaomi (11.7%). Huawei’s market share is expected to decrease to a fraction of a tenth to 3.4%.
