It has been raised that Apple will confirm the’Apple Car’ partner in the first half of this year. Hyundai Motor Company and Volkswagen were selected as the leading candidates.
According to Apple Insider, investment bank Wedbush predicted in an investment report on the 8th (local time) that Apple will officially announce an Apple car manufacturing partner in the first half of the year.
Daniel Ives, who wrote the investment report, predicted, “It is more than 85% likely that Apple will officially announce an EV partner and cooperation agreement within the next three to six months.”
He argued that for Apple, now is the best time to enter the electric car market.
Existing automakers such as General Motors (GM) and Ford are showing aggressive moves, and President Joe Biden is making a move to provide preferential treatment for eco-friendly cars.
Although negotiations with Hyundai Motor Company have been suspended, he insisted that Hyundai Motor Company’s E-GMP platform would still be an attractive choice for Apple.
He also predicted that if negotiations with Hyundai Motor could not be resumed at the end, Volkswagen could be a viable alternative. The reason is that Volkswagen’s modular electric vehicle platform MEB (Modular Electric Drive Matrix) is a design framework that makes it easy to integrate new autonomous vehicle models.
