[인사이트코리아=노철중 기자] It was found that Apple, which had stopped discussing cooperation with Hyundai Motor Group and Apple car production, did not achieve much results in collaboration discussions with Nissan.

On the 14th (local time), the Financial Times (FT) reported that Apple had an initial discussion with Japanese automaker Nissan regarding the self-driving electric vehicle Apple car business, but it has not progressed. The two companies recently discussed the production of apple cars, but failed to progress due to high-level discussions.

The main reason for the breakdown of negotiations is said to be that Apple made a request to only attach the Apple brand to the Apple cars produced by Nissan. It is analyzed that this is not much different from asking a global automaker like Nissan to become a subcontractor of Apple.

FT said that while referring to Foxconn, a Taiwanese manufacturing group that is commissioned by Apple to produce iPhones, many automakers are wary of becoming’Foxcone in the automotive industry’. Foxconn is known to make little profit while producing iPhones.

Nissan Chief Operating Officer (COO) Ashwani Gupta said in an FT interview that “we will not change the way cars are made.”

At the same time, he announced that cooperation with the technology group is open to adapt to new industry changes such as autonomous vehicles. “We can do cooperation. However, they are putting their services on our products, and the opposite is not true.”
