The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 16th (local time) that Apple’s largest partner, Taiwan’s Foxconn, has begun work to produce electric vehicles in the United States.
Chairman Liu Yang-wei officially announced at a press conference held in Taipei, Taiwan on the same day that “we will make a new electric car in the United States.”
Foxconn has a factory in Wisconsin, USA. Industry predicts that Foxconn will also assemble electric vehicles at the plant. The production of electric vehicles will start as early as the end of 2023, a foreign press reported.
Recently, Apple also announced that it plans to create an Apple’I-Car’ by selecting an electric car as a new growth engine according to its name as the iPhone is saturated. Accordingly, it was predicted that global automakers such as Hyundai/Kia Motors and Volkswagen could become Apple’s partners.
However, when asked about the possibility of cooperation in electric car production with Apple, Chairman Ryu drew a line saying, “The news that Foxconn will produce Apple cars is only a rumor.”
