Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, made a remark about self-driving cars in a media interview. Recently, there has been a rumor of cooperation with global automakers for the’Apple Car’, which is attracting more attention.

According to a report on the US CNBC broadcast on the 5th (local time), CEO Cook said in an interview with the New York Times (NYT) podcast’Sway’, “Self-driving cars are robots. There are many things you can do with self-driving, and we have a lot to do with Apple. I will see if I do it.”

“We’re working on a lot of things internally, and many of them haven’t seen the light. (But) I’m not saying we won’t.”

“We like hardware, software and services, and we like to find their touch points,” he added.

It has been raised a few years ago that Apple will enter the business of directly producing finished cars or sell related technologies to other finished car companies. Since 2014, news has been reported that it has been running an autonomous driving project called Project Titan. In 2019, it acquired’Drive AI’, a startup that specializes in autonomous driving.

CNBC said that when asked if Apple was working on automobiles or vehicle-related technologies, Cook avoided making specific comments, but assessed that the remarks on the day were implicit remarks related to self-driving cars.

Until now, discussions and suspension of cooperation regarding Apple’s Apple Car with major global automakers including Hyundai Motor Company and Kia continued. On February 8th, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia drew a line saying, “We are not discussing the development of autonomous vehicles with Apple.”
