Owners of land and buildings in Dongja-dong Jeokbangchon near Seoul Station are protesting against the government’s announcement of the public housing district project plan.

Earlier, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 5th that it would promote 47,000 square meters of the area in Dongja-dong, Yongsan-gu, as a public housing district project. The main goal is to build 1450 public housing units and 960 units for private sales.

The Hu-Am Special Plan Zone 1 (Dongja) Preparation Promotion Committee released a press release on the 9th and said, “The government has not made any consultations or opinions with land and building owners. “I oppose the plan.”

The promotion committee said, “I was waiting for the service results to be announced at the end of this year as the previous district-level urban planning period expired on May 27 of last year, but a plan for the maintenance project was announced through media reports.” He stressed that it is never acceptable to completely exclude the building owner from the decision to conduct development.”

Regarding the government’s plan to compensate the landowners who are incorporating the project district in consideration of the current land use and transaction cases, the voice was raised as “an act of depriving private property rights in the name of public interest.”

The promotion committee said, “The government plan means that private property will be forcibly held on a large scale.” Said.

He added, “In order to receive the right for public sale of this project, it is said that people without homes can move in until 2026.” Explained the situation.

He said, “I am very concerned by treating land and building owners as simple speculators without considering such circumstances. If this is true, we will use all measures to protect private property, including legal countermeasures.”
