Another landscape changed by Corona… Opened a smartphone in an unmanned store

They line up in front of the kiosk machine to purchase a new smartphone. Opening services such as artificial intelligence-based plan consulting, subscription application, and mobile phone reception are completed non-face-to-face in front of a machine in an unmanned store.

This is the unmanned opening event for Galaxy S21 held at SK Telecom T Factory near Hongik University Station in Seoul on the 22nd.

In October of last year, SK Telecom held a smartphone launch event using the unmanned purchasing space at T Factory, which was introduced as an unmanned experience store. It is quite different from the scenery where buyers waited in line with a long line in the past and entered the store at the opening time.

Self-kiosks and bending machines are located in’T Factory 24′, a 24-hour unmanned store located on both sides of the T Factory entrance. It is a place where consumers can purchase and activate smartphones at once without a face-to-face counseling staff.

With the spread of non-face-to-face culture after Corona 19, it was not just purchasing smartphones, but using unmanned stores for new device opening events.

An official from SK Telecom explained, “In consideration of customer safety and quarantine guidelines, we selected and conducted an opening event among reservation buyers through prior application.”

Those who were selected as participants of the opening event visited the T Factory at intervals from 9 am on the day and opened the reserved terminals using SK Telecom’s unmanned opening system.

In addition to a non-face-to-face opening event using an unmanned store, SK Telecom has held a live show that shares Galaxy S21 purchase information through real-time streaming videos such as YouTube during the pre-booking period.

Also, from the first day of pre-reservation, KT also conducted live commerce broadcasting using its OTT service.

Instead of a smartphone opening event, which has always been held, LG U+ also sought out Galaxy S21 buyers among employees’ families and selected the first launcher in a non-face-to-face manner.

An official from a telecommunications company said, “With Corona 19, we have considered a new marketing method in consideration of various consumption patterns of new subscribers over the past year.”
