It was confirmed that the forests of 357 soccer fields were burned due to forest fires in Andong and Yecheon, Gyeongbuk.
According to the Gyeongbuk-do Fire and Safety Headquarters on the 22nd and Andong City and Yecheon-gun, the area of the forest burned down by forest fires in Andong and Yecheon the afternoon of the previous day amounted to about 255ha. Andong 20ha (2 million㎡), Yecheon 50ha (500,000㎡), Yeongju 5ha (50,000㎡). When the area of one soccer field is calculated as 7,140㎡, it is the size of about 357 soccer fields. The two cities and counties resumed their evolution from 5:50 am and 7 am on the same day.
In Andong, a forest fire that occurred from 3:20 p.m. on the previous day at Yasan, Mangcheon-ri, Imdong-myeon, spread to the surroundings, and the second stage of response was issued, and an evacuation order for residents fell. On the same day, at 4:12 pm, a fire broke out in Yecheon-myeon, Gamcheon-myeon, Yecheon-gun, and the first stage of response was issued. The fire spread through the wind to Galsan-ri, Jangsu-myeon, Yeongju-si. The fire department has not only evacuated Yecheon but also residents of Jangsu-myeon, Yeongju-si, adjacent to the forest fire.
As of 9 am, the evolution rate is 30% in Andong and 80% in Yecheon and Yeongju. An official from Yecheon-gun said, “The fire was caught by the morning firefighting work,” and said, “We are simultaneously extinguishing remaining lights and monitoring in case the embers left in the wind will rise again.” On this day, a wind speed of 0.5 ㎧ was blowing in Andong, and a western wind of 3.7 ㎧ was blowing in Yecheon and Yeongju.
Forestry and firefighting authorities have determined that there have been no casualties to date. 114 residents of Jungpyeong-ri and Sawol-ri in Andong are evacuating to the Gocheon-ri Village Hall and Imhaho Glamping Site. Most of the nearby residents stayed awake all night. About 200 residents who had evacuated from Yecheon and Yeongju were all taken home early this morning.
It was confirmed that there was no damage to cultural properties. One cultural property in Andong, Yeongju, and Yecheon is close to the wildfire scene, but there is no damage to date and has passed a dangerous hurdle, a Gyeongbuk-do official said.
In Andong, 1,351 people were mobilized, including 619 public officials, 179 specialized extinguishers, 42 special extinguishing teams, 270 firefighters, 79 volunteer fire brigades, and 162 soldiers. 23 helicopters belonging to the Forest Service, firefighting, and military units, 23 forest fire extinguishing vehicles, and 49 fire engines were also deployed. In Yecheon and Yeongju, 1,262 people were convened, including 739 civil servants, 182 specialized firefighting teams, 100 firefighters, 110 voluntary fire brigades, 46 special firefighting teams, and 85 soldiers. 16 helicopters, 34 forest fire extinguishers, and 32 fire engines were also supported.
Gyeongbuk-do has taken over the command of the field from 8:50 pm the previous day and is controlling the situation. The command center for the forest fire field was established at 446, Sugok-ri, Imdong-myeon, Andong-si and 125 Yuri, Gamcheon-myeon, Yecheon-gun.
