The picture of an excavator struggling alone to take out a stranded giant ship is a hot topic.

On the 25th (local time), the website of the Suez Canal Administration (SCA) posted several photos related to the super-large container ship’Ever Given’ in Panama.

Among them, an excavator that is small enough to be incomparable to the size of the’Evergiven’ trapped in a canal was working on the embankment.

The’Evergiven’ is the world’s largest container ship with a width of 59m and a length of 400m, with a 220,000t class, and was departing from China and heading to Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

However, while passing the Suez Canal in the morning of the 23rd, the hull left the course due to a sudden strong wind and crashed into the bottom and was stranded.

The ship’s prow is stuck in one bank, and the stern part is stopped almost hanging over the other bank, blocking the Suez Canal altogether, and the operation of numerous ships crossing the canal is disrupted.

According to the Daily Guardian, photos of the’Evergiven’ that stopped blocking the Suez Canal and the excavator in operation have since created numerous memes (memes, popular photos or videos on the Internet) online.

The Guardian explained that the appearance of a super-large container ship and a small excavator in particular is reminiscent of the’David and Goliath’ of our time.

After drawing a container ship trapped in the Suez Canal, there was one who said, “We are all like that ship in some way,” saying that the shape of the ship is as if it were not doing what it was supposed to do.

In the comedy movie’Austin Power’ about a British spy, a meme was also created that synthesized the scene where the protagonist had a difficult U-turn in a car in a narrow passage with the’Evergiven’.

Others said on Twitter that the traffic and parking difficulties they suffered were compared to the situation on the Suez Canal. “Today, I am glad that I chose the Panama Canal instead of Suez.”

The Guardian said work is ongoing to support ships stranded on the Suez Canal, and that containers may have to be unloaded to lighten the ship, which could take days to weeks.
