Ammonia’s Memories End 2020

[월간수소경제 성재경 기자] I remember being interested in ammonia while covering CES, the organizer of the government project’Ammonia Decomposition Hydrogen Production System for Hydrogen Charging’. This day’s coverage is introduced in the August 2020 issue of continuous planning.

It’s been five months since then. On December 8th, I visited the Korea Institute of Energy Research in Daejeon to see a facility system that decomposes ammonia to produce 20N㎥/h (about 1.8kg per hour) of hydrogen.

The site was cluttered because it was the day of the certification inspection by the Korea Testing Institute of Technology. Several people came and went about the’ammonia decomposition device’ made by Korea Energy Research Institute, the’remaining ammonia removal device’ developed by Hyundai Motor Company, and the VPSA’hydrogen purification device’ made by Jens Engineering.

On the other hand, the motor that blows ammonia on this day broke. Had it failed an hour or two late or had no spare motors, the certification inspection schedule would have been delayed in the future.

“It’s something we always go through every time we develop a new piece of equipment.”

Jeong Unho, a senior researcher at Energy Research Institute, said calmly. There was a resounding in these words.

The hot issue of this new year issue consisted of two taps with the theme of’Ammonia is floating’. This is because there were many things to say, such as the technical background of ammonia and the role of ammonia as a hydrogen carrier to store green hydrogen.

In the meantime, some’event’ or’feeling’ remains more memorable than this information or concept. Rather than the principle of the’Harbor-Bosch’ method of synthesizing ammonia, things like’motors’ that are fine until the day before and be grumpy before an important test leave a clearer impression on the mind.

It’s not all about work on this day. In life, there are times when you have to overcome unexpected situations or difficulties that break your predictions. This is because we know from experience that once the fluctuating emotional fluctuations have subsided, the tranquility of everyday life will come again.

I am writing this with just that feeling right now. It feels like the feeling of looking at the Yeouido National Assembly on the tram passing through the Dangsan Railway Bridge on the way home from work after the deadline.

One year has passed and another year has passed. This is what I always experience every time I open a book. If you turn your head and look around, you will inadvertently miss the expressionless expressions hidden in the mask, and you will look down on the indifferent river.
