Foreign media such as IT media Cnet reported on the 5th (local time) that Amazon has purchased 11 new used aircraft for fast delivery.

Amazon purchased 11 used Boeing 767-300 aircraft from WestJet and Delta. Four WestJet aircraft purchased this year will be deployed this year, and seven Delta aircraft will join next year, Amazon said.

Amazon has rented and operated cargo aircraft so far, but it is the first time that it has been purchased directly.

“Amazon will be able to continue delivering deliveries that meet the expectations of customers across the United States,” said Sarah Rohads, vice president of Amazon Global Air.

Amazon said it will surpass 85 aircraft by the end of next year. Amazon has operated about 70 aircraft until last year for delivery, and it is reported that the number of aircraft operated by Amazon with this purchase has exceeded 80.

Amazon explained that online shopping has soared in the aftermath of Corona 19, increasing the number of aircraft in operation. The price of the aircraft purchased by Amazon is unknown, but it is known that the price of the aircraft has recently fallen as the demand for travel has plummeted due to the Corona 19 outbreak.

In addition, it is known that airlines are planning to sell a lot of used aircraft to reduce costs as they suffer from business difficulties. Delta said last year that it plans to sell seven Boeing 767-300 aircraft by 2020 and the remaining 49 by 2025.
