Already recognized as a world model airport for the 20th anniversary of Incheon Airport

Incheon International Airport celebrated its 20th anniversary on the 29th. IIAC will hold an event commemorating the 20th anniversary of the port opening at 5pm on the 29th at Incheon Airport Terminal 1.

On this day, Incheon International Airport Corporation announced’Incheon Airport Mystery Exhibition 2030+’, which aims to build a people-centered airport, a high-quality airport with culture, and a future airport in which the 4th industrial revolution technology is fused and combined. Along with the Cultural Heritage Administration, a media display for promoting traditional culture for foreigners will be installed.

According to Vision 2030 to be announced by Incheon Airport Corporation, all areas of the airport will be digitally converted based on the 4th Industrial Revolution technology. It is a method of expanding the space used by combining virtual space with the physical space of the airport. The digital conversion is expected to reduce the time required to leave the country from 51 minutes to 16 minutes.

It was decided to implement a smart mobility city by actively participating in the urban air transportation (UAM) business, including the outskirts of the airport with drones, and the drone demonstration project, the establishment of a flight management system, and the production of aircraft and parts.

In order to make Incheon International Airport a first-class international airport, KDHC will promote a convergence and complex project of people, technology, and culture. It is a method of connecting the airport terminal with culture such as art and music based on the technology of the 4th industrial revolution. The goal is to make Yeongjong Island the final tourist destination by attracting complex theme spaces, international festivals, and art exhibition halls near the airport. The duty-free business will also be reorganized into a space that combines culture and information and communication technology by significantly improving the existing duty-free shop product line and display methods.

Through the 4th stage of the airport expansion project, which will be completed in 2024, the construction will increase the number of aircraft from 500,000 to 600,000 a year, passengers from 71 million to 106 million, and cargo from 5 million to 6.3 million tons. It will be promoted as a hub airport in Northeast Asia. The concept of transforming an energy-consuming airport into an energy-independent airport by introducing ESG (environmental, social, governance) management is also contained in the Mystery Exhibition 2030+. In 2030, the number of airport workers increased from 80,000 to 200,000, contributing to job creation.

Meanwhile, Incheon Airport ranked first in the world airport service for 12 consecutive years, 5th in the number of international passengers, and 3rd in the world for international cargo handling capacity as of 2019. It has signed an order contract worth $230 million for overseas airport development and operation projects in Poland, Kuwait, and Indonesia.

An official from Incheon Airport Corporation said, “We have contributed to the national finance through government dividends of about 1.86 trillion won in the past 2015~2019. We will prepare for the future competitiveness of Incheon Airport by strongly promoting Vision 2030+.”

The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun, Jin Seon-mi, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Homeland Transportation Committee, Byeon Chang-heum, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Incheon Mayor Park Nam-chun. In order to comply with the COVID-19 prevention guidelines, only 99 people will attend the event and broadcast it live online.
