Alleged damage to Yonsei University entrance examination accidents

The candidate who passed the entrance was notified of failure, and the person who was to fall took the entrance exam. On the 28th, Yonsei University issued a statement stating, “We confirmed the fact that the 20 people who were to be notified as subject of the preliminary trial were unsuccessful, and took steps to allow them to take the real trial. Twenty candidates who passed the preliminary examination, who were notified of failure due to a computer error, received notification of acceptance again and took an additional 30 days.

But the problem is more complicated. In the 2021 school year, a total of 101 piano students are selected for the piano department on time. It was a plan to select 40 people after a preliminary trial on the 25th and 26th of this month, and 20 people at the final review on the 28th. However, a computer error occurred, and finally 60 candidates participated. There were three groups of 20 people each who failed to pass, pass or fail, or originally passed. In summary, all of these groups are concerned about fairness.

First, the 20 members of Group A who took an additional test after reversal of notification were unable to practice the final admissions song for two days. On the late evening of the 28th, when the school recognized the error and notified the additional examination to Group A, who received the notification of the preliminary failure on the 27th. One instructor instructing the test takers in Group A said, “I was only a student who took and prepared for Yonsei University. I cried for two days after being notified of disqualification. The 20 people in Group C, who were originally subject to a real review, and who had taken a real review on the 28th, are also anxious. Since the judges knew that Group A, who had taken a full review late on the 30th, was originally the candidate for the pass, it is questionable whether it was judged fairly. One examinee said, “Wouldn’t it be possible for the judges to score with a prejudice that Group A’s ability is better?”

Yonsei University explained that “a computational error occurred in the process of mapping (pairing processing) the actual’examination number’ and the’provisional number’ according to the playing order.” A professor at a music college in Seoul said, “I haven’t heard of such an entrance exam accident in recent decades.” In the music college entrance exam, I often double check the test number and performance number several times for the results.” Professor Lee also said, “There were many problems in the process of training,” and argued, “Rather than notifying 20 people who passed by error of failure, a total of 60 people should have been evaluated on the same line.”

Yonsei University plans to announce the final 20 successful candidates on the 7th of next month. Yonsei University explained, “We will take follow-up measures such as compensation for damage and investigation of the cause.”
