All LG Twin Tower cleaning workers on the street work in nearby buildings

S&I, a management company, proposes to the union at a mediation meeting of the Ministry of Employment on the 9th
Enables work in one building to eliminate concerns about’union breakdown’
Maintaining employment of union members aged 65 or older with health permit

[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Kim Seon-yeop = LG’s building management subsidiary, S&I Corporation (hereinafter referred to as S&I) and building beautification company Index INC, are currently working at the LG Mapo Building, located in Mapo-daero near Yeouido. He said he would.

It also suggested that union members 65 years of age or older, whose health permits, will continue to work.

On the 9th, S&I and Index INC delivered the same plan to the union at the second mediation meeting held in mediation with the southern branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor. The meeting was attended by management, representatives of cleaning workers, and officials from the KCTU public transport union.

Cleaning workers have been fighting in the lobby since December 16 last year after receiving a notice from a service company on November 30 last year that they will cancel the contract from January 1 this year.

The LG Twin Tower cleaning service is a structure where S&I, which is 100% invested by LG, subcontracts index INC.

S&I and Index INC have maintained the position of maintaining employment by allowing their union members to work at other workplaces in consideration of commuting convenience, and officially proposed this to the union at a mediation meeting mediated by the Southern Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 5th of last month. There has been an effort to solve it.

However, negotiations have not progressed as the union insisted,’If you work scattered across multiple workplaces, the union may break down, so you must take over the employment of all union members in Twin Towers.’

Starting this year, Twin Towers is carrying out cleaning services by employing more than 90 new building beautifiers (including 30 disabled workers). In order for the labor union members to work at Twin Towers, the newly hired manpower must find another job within a month after starting work.

Despite these difficulties, S&I and Index INC are working with cleaning workers who are struggling with the prolonged COVID-19.
In a situation where the health and safety of 7,000 Twin Tower workers are threatened, a new employment retention plan was devised to ensure that the cleaning workers return after completing the Lunar New Year holiday.

LG Mapo Building is located about 3km from Yeouido Twin Tower and 10 minutes by public transportation, and it is next to Gongdeok Station on Line 5, so the commuting environment will not be much different from Yeouido.

If the union accepts the new proposal from the management and all the union members work in one of the LG Mapo Buildings, the concern about the collapse of the union is expected to be eliminated.

In particular, this proposal includes retaining the employment of union members aged 65 and over, which were excluded from maintaining existing employment.

The management plans to extend the contract every year so that cleaning workers aged 65 or older can work if health permits.

Until now, Index INC has signed a contract every year in consideration of health status at 60 years of retirement, allowing employees to work until the age of 65.

S&I and Indices Inc. are expecting the end of the two-month-long occupation of the building by ensuring the union activities requested by the union and allowing workers over 65 to work.

The management said, “We will continue to discuss other requirements such as improvement of working conditions requested by the union.”
