A trot composer competition between artificial intelligence (AI) and humans unfolds. AI composer’Bom Lee (EVOM)’ participates in the finalization of the SBS New Year’s special’Confrontation of the Century AI vs. Humans’ to compete against a human composer in a sparkling bout. Trot composer Kim Do-il, who became famous for composing one song every three minutes, emerges as a human representative to counter this.
‘Bom Lee’ is the first AI composer in Korea and the only AI composer registered with the Korea Music Copyright Association. Lee Bom was developed at’CreativeMind’, an AI music startup led by Professor Ahn Chang-wook of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST/GIST) AI Graduate School. Last year, it became a hot topic by debuting a new singer for the first time in Korea.
For this confrontation, Bom Lee studied the structure of the song, the melody progression, and patterns for the trot newly for a month, and based on this, he was equipped with trot composition skills. Amid the recent trot craze hitting Korea, Bom Lee is expanding the genre to trot, continuing an unrivaled step that only Korean AI composers can do.
Lee Jong-hyun, CEO of Creative Mind, explained, “Lee Bom goes beyond the level of deep learning that simply relies on data analysis, and can compose new music with as little data as a human being.”
Gist Professor Ahn Chang-wook said, “It was meaningful that only Korean AI can do trot composition,” he said. “This confrontation will not win or lose, and look at it from the perspective of coexistence of humans and AI in the coming future era in the field of creation.”
