Kim Jong-in, Chairman of the National Forces Emergency Response Committee, and Ahn Cheol-soo, CEO of the National Assembly Party, met. The two were once between’a mentor and a mentee’, then turned their backs, and now they are like’water and oil’.

Representative Ahn ran for a conservative opposition candidate in the Seoul Mayor’s by-election in April, and Chairman Kim holds the’key’ to decide how to unify the opposition candidates. Ahn’s chances of victory depend to a great extent on Chairman Kim’s decision. When Ahn declared his run last month, Chairman Kim responded coldly, saying, “Ahn is one of several candidates from the conservative camp.”

It was Ahn’s side that first revealed the meeting. An official from the National Assembly said on the 7th that “Chairman Ahn and Chairman Kim met in Seoul yesterday.” It is said that CEO Ahn requested a meeting. Chairman Kim and CEO Ahn have met for three years since November 2017.

The’reconciliation’ between the two seems to have been misfired. Chairman Kim expressed displeasure toward Representative Ahn, who revealed the fact of the meeting. Chairman Kim met with reporters and said, “It is not important to meet (with CEO Ahn) and not meet.” “There is nothing to meet in the future. If you ask to meet, you can meet, but I don’t think (CEO Ahn’s) request will come.

It means that even though the two people sat face to face, they couldn’t find any other point of contact over how to unify the opposition candidates. On the 6th, the power of the people sent a gesture to President Ahn, saying, “Start joining,” saying that the candidate for the mayor of Seoul will be held in a “100% poll”, but Ahn immediately refused. Representative Ahn is demanding that conservative opposition candidates compete’equally’ in the third zone, not in the power of the people.
