As the National Assembly decided not to apply the amendment retrospectively, complaints about the unfair profits of LH employees who caused the incident spread, and they expressed their position to push for a revision. The government is also concentrating on’appropriating public opinion’ as if taking into account the public outrage triggered by the LH crisis. Deputy Prime Minister of Economy and Ministry of Strategy and Finance Hong Nam-ki emphasized at the meeting of ministers related to the real estate market inspection held the day before, “We are preparing fundamental measures with the determination to eradicate the typical illegal, expedient, and unfair speculation in the real estate market.”
The party will hold a high-ranking party administration council on the 28th, discuss prevention, detection, punishment, and return measures to eradicate illegal real estate activities such as speculation, and then announce it. Deputy Prime Minister Hong explained, “I will announce it at the beginning of next week without exceeding March,” and “I will impose much stricter standards and responsibilities on public officials (government officials + public institutions) who need to take the initiative.”
It is known that the government is pursuing a plan to receive a financing plan when purchasing land in the metropolitan area and to introduce a real estate property registration system for public officials.
The government’s decision to come up with a countermeasure less than a month after the incident was triggered by civic groups’ suspicion on the 2nd is interpreted as the aim of minimizing the negative impact on the Seoul-Busan by-election. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is also speeding up the stabilization of house prices by establishing a Real Estate Transaction Analysis Planning Team under the Land Policy Office at the beginning of next month and a Housing Rental Support Team to manage the overall rental system in the Office of the Housing Policy Office. The planning team is a regular organization by expanding the existing real estate market illegal activities response team, and is responsible for intensive investigations on various real estate illegal activities such as down contracts and expedient gifts.
