Earlier on the 15th, CNN reported that it has secured the identities of 6-10 FSB poison team agents who have been tracking Navalni for more than three years through joint coverage with Bellingcat of England and The Spiegel of Germany. According to reports at the time, the poison team consisted of doctors and poison scholars, and has been monitoring Navalni and his wife since 2017.

CNN said they requested a direct phone call to the FSB’s poison team agents regarding the report, but were subsequently rejected. He also explained that Navalni had stepped out in person prior to contact with the last remaining agent, Constantine Kudriavchev.

According to this, Navalni introduced himself as a high-level official of the Russian National Security Council (NSC) and attempted to speak with Kudriavchev. The caller number was changed to the FSB headquarters number to avoid suspicion, and the conversation was drawn on the pretext of having to report to the top the reason for the failure of the poisoning attempt.

Kudriavchev was tricked by Navalni’s lies. In a 45-minute call, he explained in detail how the FSB poison team tried to poison Navalni in Tomsk, Siberia in August.

According to the records of a call with Kudriavchev, the poison team sneaked into a hotel room on August 18-20 using a hotel laundry service in Tomsk, Siberia, where Navalni was staying. They said they did not leave any evidence by cutting off the hotel CCTV before entering the hotel room.

There was also a deep side related to the case behind this incident. When Kudriavchev said, “I was instructed to work on the inside of my underwear,” Navalni said, “Who said that. Maxshakov?” he said, “yes”. Makshakov is a scientist who has been named head of the FSB poison team.

When he questioned whether there was a problem with the amount of poison he used, he refuted, “Rather, it was buried more than lethal dose.” At the same time, he was convinced that the attempt to poison Navalni would be successful, but he explained that it failed due to unexpected events.

“The scheduled flight time for Navalni was three hours,” said Kudriavchev. If I had not made an emergency landing and received first aid, the results would have been different,” he said. “I didn’t know this would happen. Everything is wrong,” he said.

In an interview with CNN regarding the call, Navalni said, “It has become so clear that President Vladimir Putin is behind this incident.”

The FSB immediately refuted Navalni’s and CNN’s allegations, saying, “The conversation between Navalni and his staff is fake.” The FSB Public Affairs Office said, “The technology to change the calling number is a tool of foreign intelligence agencies,” and that “this is impossible without the organizational and technical support of foreign intelligence agencies.” The Kremlin and Makshakov did not disclose their position on related reports.

On August 20, Navalni, who is considered a staple of President Putin, fell into a coma on a flight from Siberia, Russia to Moscow. Then the plane made an emergency landing, and Navalni was taken to Germany while being treated in Russia. Afterwards, the German government and the Chemical Weapons Prohibition Organization (OPCW) revealed that a blood sample from Navalni had been detected and the former Soviet nerve agent’Nobichok’ was detected. Navalni, who regained consciousness in September, pointed to the Russian government as behind the incident. He is currently staying in Germany.
